Rewards

At The Boswells School, we believe that students whose behaviour and attitudes to learning are exemplary should have their achievements acknowledged.

Staff acknowledge and praise students’ class work, home learning and effort throughout the year. Three achievement assemblies will take place each year in which top achievers will be publicly rewarded in front of their year group. Thresholds for bronze, silver, gold and platinum certificates have been decided by our Student Leadership Group and pupils who have achieved the required thresholds will be presented with certificates in assembly by senior staff. Top achievers will also be rewarded with a rewards trip in the summer term.

Students continue to be praised through the SIMS Achievement database. Staff can easily acknowledge and praise students’ class work, home learning and effort through this system. Three achievement assemblies, for each year group, will take place each year in which top achievers will be publicly rewarded in front of their year group. Thresholds for bronze (75 points), silver (125 points), gold (175 points) and platinum (225points) certificates have been decided by JHK and pupils who have achieved the required thresholds will be presented with certificates in assembly. Top achievers will also be rewarded with prizes and vouchers in the summer term.

I have presented to all staff during Thursday briefing and outlined our targets as a school for achievement. We are currently working at a ratio of 5 achievement points to 1 behaviour point and our whole school target is to be awarding a ratio of 6:1. Staff have been advised by myself how to award points quickly and efficiently, as time constraints are the main reason for staff not awarding as many points as they maybe could. This, coupled with the remote access of SIMS going live to staff and parents, are the main tools in which we as a whole staff can more effectively reward achievement.

After each data drop students whom receive four of more grade A’s in their interim reports have a letter sent home to congratulate them on their excellent achievement. These students are also invited to a Head teacher’s assembly whereby all of the leadership team congratulate these pupils.

During the final academic week of the year each HOY will conduct a celebration assembly with their own year group, whereby certain students will be awarded with the following: 100% attendance awards; PE awards; language competition winners; achievement awards; Head teacher’s awards; subject awards; prizes. There will also be acts performing in order to showcase the significant talents that each year group and The Boswells School has to offer.
