2019 Netball & Rugby Tour

2019 Netball & Rugby Tour

At around 4pm on Friday 30 excited students loaded their luggage on to the coach, we were ready to go. After a long (and loud thanks to Jacob’s speaker) journey, we finally pulled into the service station to enjoy a well needed Burger King. Back on to the coach and a further 2 – 3 hour journey to Treorchy, unfortunately hitting some traffic and arriving at the youth hostel at around 9pm.  Leaving us only an hour to find our rooms, unpack our stuff and…obviously find the WIFI password. And somehow all lights were off by 10 with everyone fast asleep (if only, Mr Page!)

After a lovely English breakfast, we headed to the coach for an hour journey to Treorchy School for the games. For the boys, the rugby game was tough, tiring, hard work, but most of all muddy! The rugby team experienced the full Welsh experience playing against an extremely well worked, strong rugby team on an extremely muddy and wet rugby pitch. After a tough start we came in at half time 25-5 down with Jacob Brewer scoring the try just before half time. However we fought back well in the 2nd half with two tries from Carter Howlett and another try by Harvey Farmer. The final result was 40-20 to Treorchy which was obviously disappointing but realistic against such a good rugby team.

Over at the netball courts both the A and B team experienced a competitive and well-matched opposition resulting in the A team winning their game but the B team losing their closely fought game. After a much needed shower and wonderful fish and chips provided by Treorchy, the captains from all teams stood up to choose their players of the match.

Later, (after a shower and a change of clothes) we got ready to go out for bowling. The bowling brought an hour of competitiveness and laughter and before we knew it, we were on our way to Frankie and Benny’s for a lovely dinner. Throughout the dinner, the teachers tried to see how many phones they could get confiscated which shockingly meant we had to talk to each other. It was a tough night without our phones but somehow we all made it and enjoyed the delicious meals.

The next morning, after a once again beautiful breakfast, we made our way to the Welsh rugby stadium – The Principality Stadium. Luckily we had a very detailed tour of the stadium and went into the home and away changing rooms as well as walking through the tunnels on to pitch side. Unfortunately after going into the gift shop, this was the end of the Welsh experience and we began our journey home.

We made it back to the school at about 4pm to be greeted by our parents and guardians. On behalf of all the students that went to Wales, I would like to thank all the teachers that came and made the trip possible especially Mr Page who put in a lot of time and effort to organise the trip. Thank you.
