OUTSTANDING GCSE RESULTS
Our Year 11 students have been celebrating today following another fantastic set of GCSE results for the school.
The 2018 summer exam season saw the students sitting the new more challenging Grade 9-1 GCSEs in almost all subjects.
Staff worked incredibly hard to prepare students for examinations that no one had previously sat or seen in most subjects and we are incredibly proud of the achievement of ALL our Year 11 students.
79% of all students achieved a good pass (Grade 4+) in English Language and 80% in English Literature (compared to 62% and 73% nationally respectively) and 74% of students achieved a good pass in Mathematics (compared to 60% nationally).
We are also delighted that a number of students achieved a number of Grade 9s, the highest grades available.
43% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate.
There were also a number of outstanding results in other GCSE subjects that were significantly above the national average for all schools, including grammar schools:
Art & Design (88% grade 4 and above compared to 82% nationally),
Biology (98% compared to 95% nationally),
Chemistry (100% compared to 95% nationally),
Combined Science (66% compared to 55% nationally),
Computer Science (96% compared to 61% nationally),
Dance (93% compared to 71% nationally),
German (94% compared to 75% nationally),
History (79% compared to 64% nationally),
Media Studies (87% compared to 65% nationally),
Music (88% compared to 75% nationally),
Physics (98% compared to 91% nationally),
Spanish (75% compared to 71% nationally)
It is also extremely pleasing to note that over 20% of all grades awarded to our students were awarded a grade 7 or above.
Our Level 2 BTEC results were also exceptional.
There were some superb individual results:
James Northfield: Achieved Grade 9 in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics and a Grade 8 in English Language, English Literature, Geography and Spanish, an A* in Further Mathematics and an A in Business Studies.
Elif Karaaslan: Achieved Grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, History and Religious Education; Grade 8 in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Spanish and Grade 7 in Biology and Dance.
Rhianna Farrant: Achieved Grade 9 in Religious Education, Grade 8 in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Dance, French, History and Combined Science and a grade A in Further Mathematics.
Mr Mansell said: ‘I am delighted with our GCSE results this year and would like to congratulate every single one of our Year 11 students for their hard work and dedication in preparing for these examinations. Despite the new and very challenging GCSEs, our students have performed superbly and we are very proud of their efforts. I am also delighted that their results are significantly above the performance of students nationally. Whilst it is impossible to compare this year’s results to last year, these results are very strong and I am thrilled for our students. I would also like to praise the hard work of our teachers in helping our students achieve these results and the support of all our parents. Our continued high performance means that more and more of our students are achieving the highest levels of attainment and we look forward to these students returning to our Sixth Form next year to start their A Levels with us. Our results at GCSE, along with our exceptional A Level results this year, represent another notable achievement for everyone involved with the school and it is very pleasing to be part of such a successful school community’.
