GCSE Results, Summer 2019
Year 11 students at The Boswells School have been celebrating today following another fantastic set of GCSE results for the school, both in terms of attainment and progress.
Our students achieved the best Progress 8 score that Boswells has ever achieved (+0.2). In simple terms, our Year 11s have made more progress from Year 7 to Year 11 than any previous cohort.
83% of all students achieved a good pass (Grade 4+) in English and 72% of students achieved a good pass in Mathematics, both significantly above national averages. 66% of all students achieved 5 grade 4s or above including English and Mathematics. All of these measures are significantly above the national averages. We are also delighted that a number of students achieved a number of Grade 9s, the highest grades available. 35% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate.
There were also a number of outstanding results in other GCSE subjects that were also significantly above the national average. Art & Design (90% grade 4 and above compared to 75% nationally), Biology (97% compared to 90%), Chemistry (97% compared to 90%), Combined Science (65% compared to 56%), Computer Science (94% compared to 62%), Dance (88% compared to 71%), Geography (77% compared to 66%) German (100% compared to 76%), History (78% compared to 64%), Music (87% compared to 77%), Physics (98% compared to 91%), Religious Education (87% compared to 72%) and Spanish (75% compared to 71%) all achieved grades well above the national average. It is also extremely pleasing to note that over 20% of all grades awarded to our students were awarded a grade 7 or above.
There were some superb individual results:
Charlotte Baker achieved Grade 9s in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Geography and Religious Education, a Grade 8 in English Literature and French and an A grade in Further Mathematics.
Cameron Thomas achieved Grade 9s in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History and Religious Education, Grade 8s in English Literature, Mathematics, Music and Spanish and an A grade in Further Mathematics.
Grace Asher achieved Grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Geography and Religious Education and Grade 8s in Mathematics, Combined Science, French and Music.
Headteacher, Stephen Mansell, said: ‘I am delighted with our GCSE results this year and would like to congratulate every single one of our Year 11 students. Their results are due reward for the hard work and dedication they have continuously put in over 5 years at The Boswells School. Despite the new and very challenging GCSEs, our students have performed superbly and we are very proud of their efforts. I am also delighted that their results are significantly above the performance of students nationally. Whilst it is impossible to compare this year’s results to last year, these results are very strong, both in terms of attainment and progress and I am thrilled for our students. I would also like to praise the hard work of our teachers in helping our students achieve these results and the support of all our parents. Our continued high performance means that more and more of our students are achieving the highest levels of attainment and we look forward to these students returning to our Sixth Form next year to start their A Levels with us. Our results at GCSE and A Level this year represent another notable achievement for everyone involved with the school and it is very pleasing to be part of such a successful school community’.
