Bursary

The Government has a Bursary Scheme to help 16 –19 year olds who may need financial support to continue in full time education.

Who is eligible for a bursary?

There are very strict criteria about the eligibility for the Bursary at The Boswells School Sixth Form, please note that you can only apply for one.

To qualify you must be aged under 19 on the 31st of August in the academic year in which you start your programme of study and a legal resident of the UK or registered asylum seeker.

There are two types of Bursary Award:

Bursaries for Young People in defined Vulnerable groups:

Those most in need, such as young people in care, care leavers young people receiving income support or Universal credit. Disabled young people receiving Disability living allowance or Personal independence Payments can apply for a bursary of up to £1200 per year.

Discretionary Bursaries:

These bursaries can be allocated to students who need support to overcome financial barriers that might prevent them continuing in full time education. Students who receive Free School Meals in Year 11 and continue to be eligible for Free School Meals in the Sixth Form are eligible to claim the Bursary. Other discretionary awards are made based on household income. The criteria for any support requires the total household income to be less than £22,000. All decisions about which students receive a discretionary bursary and how much are based on each students' individual circumstances and actual need. All Awards of Bursary funding require documentary evidence. Funding can be made towards books, trips, travel and other curriculum related activities.
