Personal Development and Enrichment

Our Personal Development Curriculum has been designed to provide students with deeper knowledge and understanding of a wide range of issues that will affect them in their future. The topics that have been selected are ones which we feel are the most relevant to our students, enabling them to make informed decisions about their next steps and expanding their knowledge of the wider world in preparation for the future. The content of these sessions will be continually updated to ensure that they are up to date and reflective of what our students need.

Students will have one session per fortnight, delivered by a visiting speaker or their tutor where they can explore and discuss a range of issues and as well as expanding their knowledge of the wider world. Each session links with one or more of the British values which enables students to embrace the key values that they need to be equipped for life in modern British society. 

The Personal Development programme is further supported by a robust tutor programme, which contains a wide range of activities including current affairs, super curricular activity and assemblies that further support and guide students in preparation for their next steps.

Curriculum Support

All students in Year 12 will support in a main school lesson for an hour each week. This will take place in the Autum and Spring term. The provides students with the opportunity to get actively involved in the main school and be positive role models. Alongside this it develops leaderships skills, communication, cooperation and problem solving.  

University trips and workshops

There is a range of trips and visits to universities around the country every year. These include Oxbridge application days, visits to the University of Suffolk, ARU and Essex and a large university fair at Suffolk University. During these visits, students are given valuable opportunities to take part in taster lectures and learn about the UCAS application process for their chosen field and gain insights into how to get the most out of life at university

Bar Mock Trial (Years 12-13)

Students in Years 12-13 have an opportunity to act out a scenario for a likely court case; whereby they can choose various roles from a barrister, court clerk and many others to do with the law system. The students prepare for this during school hours and then enter a competition at a local crown court. This allows students to gain experience in the British Law system. We have an outstanding track record in winning this competition regionally and nationally.
